In this town we literally get what we pay for. It’s been wonderful screening this film across the country, but now it’s time to show some box office love. Don’t do it just for me. Buy a ticket for Dear White People if you want the culture to represent the complexity of the people it entertains and informs. Buy a ticket because you care about seeing nuanced characters of color on the big screen. Do it because the art house could use some color. Do it because one serious movie per awards season and a couple romantic comedies isn’t enough to do our experiences justice. Do it because everyone who worked on this film poured their hearts and souls into crafting something outside the box. Outside the industry formula for getting folks in “niche audiences” to cough up cash for the same tropes and stories. Do it cause Rolling Stone said we’re the shit! Just do it. Chances are you’ll dig the movie, and even you don’t you’ll be helping to open the door for the next kid who’ll do it better. Love ya’ll!
